A note from our Student Council
At the most recent meeting [ Friday 1st December 2017] the Student Council of L.E.T.N.S decided to organise a fundraising event.
We have decided to have a ‘Winter Walk’ to raise money for homeless people in the Dublin area. The ‘W inter Walk’ will involve the whole school walking in festive clothes around Willsbrook Park. Everyone is asked to wear seasonal jumpers or brightly coloured clothes and bring in one or two euros for charity.
We think the winter walk is a great and fun idea for raising awareness about homelessness. It is also a great way to raise money. We would like to invite as many of our school community as possible to join us on FRIDAY 15TH DECEMBER at 11.00 a.m. for this important fundraising event.

Human Rights Day will be celebrated on December 10th. Classes will be looking at the rights of children with a particular focus on ‘the right to shelter/home’ . Well done to our Student Council for their awareness of this important issue in Irish society today and for organising this initiative for the school community where together we can show our support and empathy for families who find themselves without suitable accommodation.
Our value this month is Honesty. We will be exploring with the children the importance of telling the truth and the reasons why we don’t always find it easy to do.
Show for 1st -6th
On Thursday December 7th, Eoin Lynch theatre will visit the school to perform a show in the hall for our 1st-4th classes. The show has received great reviews from other schools and tells a tale of how quickly things can escalate if we don’t allow room for a little compromise ! The cost will be part covered by the school and we are asking each child to bring in € 2 please. We hope everyone enjoys the show. We are planning to organise events for our infants and senior classes at a later stage when we hear of something age appropriate that children would enjoy.
We had a great response to our furniture donation and it has been fantastic to see all our surplus furniture being put to good use elsewhere. Thank you to Leigh Ann and John our caretaker for doing a super job on organising supplies and arranging for deliveries. It is a reminder to us of how lucky we are to be in this position.
It is that time of year when we are dealing with colds and sniffles and various other winter bugs. If your child is unwell we recommend keeping him/her at home to rest and recover fully before returning to school. Sending children back too early increases the risk of further illness and indeed transfer of infection. It will help also if you re-inforce with your child the importance of hand washing particularly after using the bathroom and of using tissues to contain germs. Many thanks for your support and we hope of course everyone stays healthy during this time of year.
Our final assemblies will take place on Thursday December 21st at 9.00 a.m. and 11.00.a.m. We will give you more information closer to the date but for now we hope you will keep the date and maybe join us to celebrate the end of year.
