Dear Parents/Guardians,
We continue with the value of respect this month. We share our quote ……

National Active Week.
This is National Active week when we are being encouraged to become more aware of the importance of including some exercise in our daily schedule. Let’s hope that our children will avail of the lovely long evenings to get outdoors over the coming months and enjoy! We will be having our own Active Week in the school from June 11th-15thand our Active Team with Donal and Shauna are busy organising some fun activities to celebrate this week. However, we have organised one special event for this week. Tomorrow staff and classes will collectively run a marathon (26.2 miles) The event will take place on the Astro from 10.00-12.30 p.m. with each class being allocated a slot to run and carry the baton ! We hope that everyone will enjoy the challenge and teamwork involved. We are asking for a donation of €2 per child which will go towards the purchase of a new piece of P.E. equipment for the school
Earth Day was celebrated on April 22nd, with a particular focus on plastics and their long term effects on the environment. Last week we also joined in national Spring Week with classes taking on particular responsibility for cleaning up the school environment. Well done to all classes.
Our hurling team were in action on Thursday afternoon and although they lost their match they put in a great performance on the day. They will be back in action this Thursday afternoon in Sarsfields Park. Well done to our boys. Our cross country team also had a great day at the last of the local cross country races. It was fantastic to see children so resilient and fit over the various distances and enjoying the results of all the hard work they have put in over the winter. A super effort from everyone !
This year our school has taken part in the Spelling Bee competition. Congrats to Oisin Sharkey, Donal’s sixth class who represented our school very well in Tallaght last Wednesday.
Thank you to everyone who attended information evening on Stay Safe programme. It was great to have so many in attendance and we hope you found it informative and beneficial. A reminder if you missed it that the programmes for all classes are available on www.staysafe.ie The resource webwise which we use in the school was also highly recommended in dealing with the issue of cyberbullying. This is available on www.webwise.ie. The Stay Safe programme will be taught in all classes over the next month.
Creative Writing for Fifth Classes
Our fifth classes will begin a six week block of workshops on Thursdays with Seamus Cashman, author and poet. Seamus has worked in the school in previous years and brings a wealth of experience in developing children’s writing experience, which supports the excellent work already going on in these curricular areas. We hope the children enjoy this opportunity.
