Engine idling is any time your car engine is running but you’re not moving.
When an engine is running, it emits carbon dioxide (CO 2 ), the main greenhouse gas responsible for climate change. By switching off your engine when stopped, you stop these emissions too!
Idling makes for worse air quality. When we walk past idling cars, we breath in the pollution and it damages our lungs. As young people we are at greater risk of the health impacts of air pollution because our lungs are still developing.
If you are waiting in your car outside the school please turn your engine off!
