Notice from HSE to Dept. of Education & Skills

22nd February 2108

The HSE has contacted the Department requesting a reminder email to be sent to school management bodies and parents in relation to influenza.

Despite rates of influenza dropping recently, they have risen again this week. This is particularly evident in the 5-14 year age group.

The HSE would like to remind you that there is advice on dealing with influenza and influenza like illness in the "Management of Infectious Disease in Schools" document which is available on this Department’s website at http://www.education.ie/en/Schools-Colleges/Information/National-Emergencies-Public-Health-Issues/Management-of-Infectious-Disease-in-Schools

Page 41 of this publication gives information on preventive measures for dealing with all influenza and Influenza-like illness. The HSE would particularly stress the importance of hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette as detailed in the publication.

If your child is showing any flu like symptoms, vomiting or tummy upset please do not send children into school until they are well.  This will help minimise the spread of infection.

Already this week we have had a number of children going with some of the above symptoms.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Yours sincerely

Ian

Deputy Principal
