24th May 2018

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We are all delighted to see the arrival of Summer and all the opportunities it brings for outdoor activities ! This week has been action packed with sporting events, sixth class school tour and the end of year standardised tests in literacy for our first to sixth classes.

Today we received the news that our school has achieved a Science Foundation Ireland Discover Science and Maths Plaque of STEM Excellence for the current school year. Schools are awarded the plaque for excellent work in science, technology, engineering and maths. We are delighted with this achievement and congratulate all our Staff and classes on their  excellent work and putting together such an impressive portfolio of work carried out throughout the school.

Congratulations to our camogie girls who had  a super match on Tuesday afternoon when they played the girls from Tallaght in the semi-final of the league. Despite playing extra time twice, the two teams could not be separated and the match ended in a draw. It was perhaps the fairest result on the day as neither team deserved to lose. All the girls were fantastic and played with great heart and determination ! The game will be re-played in Sarsfields park on Tuesday afternoon and we are hoping to have lots of support for the team from our school community! A win will take us on another trip to Croke Park, the dream of every girl and boy with a passion for GAA. Best of luck girls.

It was another great day at Corkagh Park for the finals of the cross country league.  This year there were 72 schools taking part and although we didn’t feature in the top schools, all of the children ran brilliantly and showed great resilience over the course. Congratulations to all and thank you to Parents and friends who gave the team wonderful support over all the races.

The final Athletics event is the Primary school sports at Santry on Monday next May 28th. Children who are taking part will have received a letter today with all information and request for your signature. Best of luck to the team and hope everyone has a brilliant day.

As you are aware our school will be used as a polling station tomorrow Friday May 25th. The school will be closed and no activities will take place in the building other than voting. We hope all the children will avail of the free day to get outdoors and enjoy the lovely weather we are having at the moment.

Next week on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon at 1.45 p.m. we look forward to meeting and welcoming our new Junior Infants for September and their Parents to the school. Parents will attend an information meeting while the children enjoy a short playtime together and meet their Junior Infant teachers Karen and Yvonne N. (first class). We hope they will have a lovely start to their time in the school.

Our current Junior Infants are looking forward to their assemblies next week and celebrating their first year in the school. Thursday’s assembly will be led by Shauna’s junior infants and Friday’s assembly by Yvonne’s We welcome you our Parents and friends to join us as we come to our final class led assemblies of the school year. We will have tea /coffee on Friday following assembly.

The celebration of Ramadan has begun for the Muslim community. We are aware that many members of our school community are observing this special time of fasting and prayer, including some of our children. We extend our best wishes and support to you at this time.

Our thoughts have been with the school community of Confey Confey following the tragic loss of their first year Student Anastasia last week. We can only imagine what her family are going through and also the impact on all the Staff and students and families of the school community, as they finish their school year. We hope that all involved will find peace and draw strength from each other at this most difficult time.

We extend our best wishes to all our past pupils doing Junior Cert and Leaving Cert exams over the coming weeks. We wish you all the best of luck.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and enjoy the sunshine.

Kind regards,
