Active Week at L.E.T.S. June 9th -16th
Our Active Week got off to a great start on Friday with our annual walk in Willsbrook Park. It was a beautiful sunny morning and all the classes enjoyed the experience of walking together and being joined by family members along the way. A special word of thanks to the PTA for all their work in organising the event and the ice pops for classes which were a lovely treat after the walk. So far, over 2700 has been returned in sponsorship money which is fantastic! Thank you to everyone for your huge support and making this a lovely community event on the day.
We have a full schedule of events for our Active week ahead. We hope all our classes will have a very active, fun filled week. As part of our schedule we have organised workshops for all our classes with visiting coaches. Our Student Council are helping to organise the events for our Fun Day on Thursday and have come up with some great fun ideas.
At this point in the term we are easing off on the written homework. This will be a welcome surprise for our children and maybe for some Parents too !! However, there is another motive for this…. we are encouraging children through our Active Week and Active Flag initiatives to value exercise and develop a habit of incorporating some physical activity into their day. With this in mind, we are encouraging all children to get outdoors and engage in some physical activity e.g. play an outdoor game, go for a walk/run, skipping etc. instead and enjoy the fresh air and freedom of these lovely long Summer evenings.
There is a great buzz of excitement today as our hurling team head to Croke Park. For some children with a background and interest in Gaelic games one of their many dreams is to run out on the field at Croke Park as a competitor. We are delighted for our boys to have this opportunity and no doubt they will play their hearts out, cheered on by all our loyal supporters from third to sixth. We wish them the best of luck and hope everyone has a happy and safe day.
As we have reached the end of the camogie and hurling season we would like to thank all our children who have taken part in the many games over the past few months for their commitment and all the excitement they have brought to the school through their participation and success. Each year our teams are showing great development in their skill and fitness level which is very encouraging. Thank you to Staff and Parents who work with them week in and week out to support and train our teams and accompany them to matches. So many people play a part in helping out and we would like to say a big thanks for all your efforts and well done.
Let’s hope the week is enjoyed by all and the weather will smile on us too !! Please see schedule of events attached
