World Book Day

World Book Day takes place on Thursday 1st March 2018, and we would like to invite you to join us in helping your child to make the most of this special occasion. World Book Day celebrates the joy and value of books and reading, especially for children.  To help get them started on their reading journey, every child receives a E1.50 Book Token that can either be exchanged for one of TEN special E1.50 World Book Day books or used to get E1.50 off any book costing E3.99 at the school’s Book Fair or  other book shops.  You can find out more about the books at worldbookday.com/books. LETNS will celebrate World Book Day with a huge range of events and activities. We are encouraging the children to dress up on Thursday 1st  March to celebrate W.B.D. You can join us in building your child’s enthusiasm for books well beyond World Book Day by reading together regularly and joining your local library if you are not yet members.  For more information about World Book Day and ideas on sharing books at home visit worldbookday.com.  Children are never too young to start their journey with books, and the benefits of reading are enormous – so we hope, like us, you will use World Book Day to celebrate it with your child.  See more information on sheet attached.

Junior Infants Vision Testing

Vision Testing for Junior Infants will take place tomorrow 22nd February 2018.

As with the hearing testing that took place last week it is not necessary for parents to be in attandance.

Star Dome

The Star Dome Planetarium was a great success and was a memorable experience for the children.   Many  thanks again to Yvonne 1st class for organising the event.

Yours Sincerely

Deputy Principal

Book Fair

The Scholastic Book fair will run for one week from Thursday 1st March in our school library.  We appreciate your support in the running of this event.  It is well worth while as 100% of the profits from the Book Fair will be returned to the school in books.  This will go a long way towards extending the range of books available for children in our school libraries and classrooms.  Each child will be given a Scholastic Book Fair Catalogue to browse through before the arrival of the Book Fair.

In the past, staff felt that the children from Junior Infants and Senior Infants found it upsetting to visit the book Fair with their class and not be able to purchase books like some of their class mates.  As a result it was decided that Junior Infants and Senior Infants would not visit the Book Fair as a class event.  Instead their parents may accompany them from 1.45 after school hours. Children from 1st to 6th class will visit the Book Fair twice.   Please note, Thursday and Friday will be viewing days only allowing all the children an opportunity to view the books before purchasing begins.  WE NEED PARENTS TO VOLUNTEER TO HELP ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY AS THIS IS WHEN CHILDREN WILL PURCHASE BOOKS. Please contact Veronica in the office if you are available to help.
