Active Week Homework

All children were assigned PE homework this week. The children were delighted to have time off from regular homework and many classes have decided to include PE as a regular homework feature.

Here are some of the options the children could choose from:

Walk in the Park

Active week was launched with yet another successful Walk in the Park on June 9th. The whole school went to Willsbrook Park and walked various distances depending on their class level. The children collected sponsorship money and have raised in excess of €2,700 to go towards upgraging our astro turf pitches. A great day was had by all and luckily we got a nice clear, dry day for our walk. The children were surprised to be treated to ice pops to cool down when they got back to school. Thanks to all parents, guardians and friends who helped out and walked with us on the day.

Fit Kids Dance

Junior and Senior infants and First and Second classes had a special P.E. class during Active School Week. Dance teachers from 'Fit Kids Dance' came to teach the children some dances. The children had an amazing time learning some dance steps to their favourite songs. The children even had the opportunity to share some of their own dance moves. All children thoroughly enjoyed this and it brought them lots of laughter and fun.

Sports Day

To conclude our Active School Week, we had Sports Day on Friday. Sports Day is a great annual event that focuses on participation and fun rather than competing. This child-centred day ensures each child has lots of fun and has an enjoyable day.

We had a range of activities this year for Sports Day. Each class participated in the following events:

1) sports stations ranging from target throwing to trampolining,

2) outdoor team games such as football, basketball, tennis and croquet,

3) playground and parachute time and

Fun Day

As part of our Active School Week, we had a Fabulous Fun Day last Thursday. This Fun Day was decided upon by the students themselves. The Student Council decided on the events that were to be held on the day. We had bouncy castles, an obstacle course, use of the playground and student vs. teacher dodgeball. Take a look through the website to see the other posts about the other events that were held during Active Week. Have a look at the photos below to see how fun Fun Day really was!

Gymnastics Lessons and After-School Gymnastics

Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class had some exciting P.E. lessons this year. They had a gymnastics teacher, Rachel, visit them for 8 weeks to teach them a number of different gymnastics skills. The children had the opportunity to explore a range of balances and movements. They thoroughly enjoyed this, so much so that we began gymnastics as an after-school activity.

Playground

We are so lucky to have our playground for use everyday in school.

Junior and Senior Infants have the opportunity to use the playground during yard every lunch time. They follow a rota for this and the children have enjoyed playing together. They have been so good all year at playing fairly, taking turns and following the playground rules.

From 1st - 6th class, the children have a chance to attend the playground as part of their weekly P.E. Children in all classes love going to the playground!

Art in Senior Infants

We were talking about Elmer the Elephant and we made our own models.

Language of the Month for May - Arabic

This month our language of the month was Arabic. The Arabic speaking children in the school had a great time getting to meet one another. We also had parents visit to speak with the children in Arabic, teach them about the Arabic alphabet, read stories to the children in Arabic and even bring special traditional treats! Take a look at the pictures below to see what we have been up to this month!
