Gymnastics Lessons and After-School Gymnastics

Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First Class had some exciting P.E. lessons this year. They had a gymnastics teacher, Rachel, visit them for 8 weeks to teach them a number of different gymnastics skills. The children had the opportunity to explore a range of balances and movements. They thoroughly enjoyed this, so much so that we began gymnastics as an after-school activity.

Football

Well done to all the children who participated in afterschool football this school year. Children made excellent progress in their skills, made new friends and had lots of fun. We had a wonderful team of children this year and we hope that all the children will make sure to go outside during the summer and use their skills and play some football.

Swimming

Each class, from 1st to 4th class attends 8 weeks of swimming lessons every year. The children have made great improvements in their swimming and confidence in the water this year. Well done to all the children on another great year of swimming lessons! Keep up the swimming over summer and we will begin a new term of swimming lessons in September.

Playground

We are so lucky to have our playground for use everyday in school.

Junior and Senior Infants have the opportunity to use the playground during yard every lunch time. They follow a rota for this and the children have enjoyed playing together. They have been so good all year at playing fairly, taking turns and following the playground rules.

From 1st - 6th class, the children have a chance to attend the playground as part of their weekly P.E. Children in all classes love going to the playground!

LETS GAA teams 2016-17

Well done to our Senior Boys and Girls Football, Huring and Camogie teams representing the School from 2016-2017. We had a great year and wish the sixth class boys and girls the very best of luck as they leave us next week. We would like to thank all the parents for their support during the year, giving lifts to and from matches and cheering them on. We would also like to thank Mary Tuohy, Mary Rigney, Selien Devereux, Colette Drum and Eoghan O Shea for all their support during the year. Best wishes Grace, Yvonne, Derek, Donal and Deidre.

Santry Superstars!

Over the past six weeks children from third to sixth have been giving up their lunch breaks almost every day to go to Willsbrook park to train for Santry. It has been really wonderful to see children so committed to improving their fitness levels and speed and so eager to make the final team. It was a really difficult task in the end with some children narrowly missing out on making the team but a super effort from everyone.

Official Opening of the Cycle Path through Willsbrook Park

As part of National Bike Week and our own Active Week in school, fourteen children from Jenny's Sixth Class attended the official opening of the Cycle Path through Willsbrook Park on Monday 12 June.

We are looking forward to enjoying using our bikes on the path over the summer and beyond.

SARI - Sport Against Racism Ireland Workshops

Yesterday SARI visited our 5th and 6th classes to deliver anti-discrimination workshops. The children learned how to play fairly and without discrimination in a fun way. The children had the opportunity to discuss their experiences with sports and play a range of sports from football to handball. The children really enjoyed the workshops!

FAI Football Blitz

Well done to the school football team who participated in the FAI Football Blitz in South Dublin Football League last month!

Seven children from the football team represented the school at the event. The children played four matches against local schools. They won one, drew two and lost one match.

The children played excellently! They were very determined and supportive of one another.

The children were presented with certificates in recognition of their brilliant sportsmanship on the day.
