6th Class School Tour - Baltinglass

Donal's and Siobhan's 6th classes had their final school tour on Monday the 21st of May. It was an absolutely fantastic day that consisted of a wide range of activities at Baltinglass adventure centre. A long day was in store for the kids as they gathered in the yard at 8:15 in the morning. The bus journey took exactly one hour through the countryside of Wicklow. The children were split up into three different groups to complete the activities. Over the course of the day the children got to try out zip lining, orienteering, canoeing, archery and rock climbing all of which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Active Committee Meeting - 16/03/18

On Friday 16th of March the elected members of our Active Committee gathered Donal's room for their monthly meeting. There was much on the agenda to be discussed so no time was wasted. The first order of business for the committee was to confirm an active slogan for the school. many great suggestions were made by the groups last week so Shauna put the three most popular ones to vote. Following the vote it was decided that "Don't sit if you want to be fit" would be the school's active slogan.

Active Week Homework

All children were assigned PE homework this week. The children were delighted to have time off from regular homework and many classes have decided to include PE as a regular homework feature.

Here are some of the options the children could choose from:

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday

Boxercise

Our fourth, fifth and sixth classes took part in boxercise sessions on the astro turf during active week. They discovered a great new way to keep fit and thoroughly enjoyed these tough sessions.

Teacher Vs Student Dodgeball

The Student Council decided as part of our Active Week Fun Day they would like to play a game of Dodgeball against the teachers. Both sides clearly had put in prior training because on the day there were plenty of accurate shots and definite team strategies. Each class level bravely lined up with the students vastly outnumbering the teachers! There were no clear winners on the day. However, so much fun was had by everyone, we may have to include a students Vs teacher event in all our future active weeks.

Walk in the Park

Active week was launched with yet another successful Walk in the Park on June 9th. The whole school went to Willsbrook Park and walked various distances depending on their class level. The children collected sponsorship money and have raised in excess of €2,700 to go towards upgraging our astro turf pitches. A great day was had by all and luckily we got a nice clear, dry day for our walk. The children were surprised to be treated to ice pops to cool down when they got back to school. Thanks to all parents, guardians and friends who helped out and walked with us on the day.

Fit Kids Dance

Junior and Senior infants and First and Second classes had a special P.E. class during Active School Week. Dance teachers from 'Fit Kids Dance' came to teach the children some dances. The children had an amazing time learning some dance steps to their favourite songs. The children even had the opportunity to share some of their own dance moves. All children thoroughly enjoyed this and it brought them lots of laughter and fun.

Croke Park

Active Week got off to a wonderful start last Monday, with a visit to Croke Park. Our boys hurling team from 3rd - 6th class progressed to Croke Park this year. Children from 3rd - 6th class went to Croke Park to show their support for the team. The team played brilliantly! They showed extreme dedication and commitment to the match and to one another. Unfortunately, the boys did not win the match, but they left Croke Park smiling. They were so proud of their achievements, as are we all. Well done to all the staff who have helped with the GAA teams this year and to Derek and Donal for training the boys team.

Zumba for 6th Class

Our 6th classes had a great time last week during their last Active Week in LETs. They particularly enjoyed the Zumba class that they participated in. Fiona taught the children some Zumba moves and about the origins of Zumba. The children had a brilliant time dancing, laughing, having fun and sharing their dance moves with one another.
