Weather Mobiles

In 2nd class, we have been learning all about weather. We made weather mobiles by collecting sticks. We then drew and decorated our favourite types of weather and attached them to create our mobile using string. We were very proud of our creations.

In literacy, we read the book 'Camille and the Sunflowers' by Laurence Anholt. We learned about the life and work of Vincent Van Gogh. We then recreated Van Gogh's famous 'Sunflowers' painting. We discussed Van Gogh's use of colour and his brush style in the painting.

History Interview

We carried out interviews with older family members to discuss their favourite games from the past. We learned that there are a lot of similar games that we still play nowadays, such as chasing, chess and snakes and ladders. There were also some games from the past that we hadn't all heard of before, such as marbles, marco polo, cowboys and indians, among others.

We shared our interviews in groups with one another. We then discussed the interesting things that we learned and voted on our favourite games from the past.

Heat Investigation

We carried out an investigation to see what happens to materials when they are heated. We first made predictions and we then went to the staff room to carry out the investigation. We learned that water turns to a gas when heated. We really loved seeing the chocolate and crayons melt when heated!

Waterproof Investigation

We investigated the best material to use to design a waterproof jacket. We investigated using aluminium, plastic, tinfoil, kitchen roll and blue tissue. We decided the best option was plastic.

Irish Dancing

2nd Class had so much fun Irish dancing during Seachtain na Gaeilge le Marie Caren. We learned a new bridge dance and really enjoyed it.

Pop Art Hearts

We learned about the Pop Art style of art. We looked at the work of the pop artist Jim Dine. We were inspired by his hearts artwork to create our own pop art hearts.
