Staff Relay

We had 10 teachers from LETS participate in the Staff Relay 5km race in the Phoenix Park this year. For some, it was their first 5km race but definitely won't be their last. It was a warm evening so tough running conditions but that didn't stop our runners! Well done to everyone invloved!

Daily Yard Activities

In LETNS we are lucky to have a playground that all the children have access to. The infants use the play ground at break times and all other classses have allocated slots during the school week. We also have large games on our yards such as Pinball, Mazes and Connect 4. Fifth and sixth classes use the basketball hoops at lunch time and first, second, third and fourth classes can skip or use chunky ground chalk to draw. Classes rotate through the activities each week and all get a chance to play on the astro turf pitches too.

Bike Rack

One of the main projects of the Student Council work on this year was fund raising for a new sheltered bike rack. This will encourage children to cycle or bring their scooters to school. We had held a crazy hair day in term 1 and there will be additional fund raising initiatives next year tso that construction of the bike rack can commence.

Active Week Homework

All children were assigned PE homework this week. The children were delighted to have time off from regular homework and many classes have decided to include PE as a regular homework feature.

Here are some of the options the children could choose from:

Monday

Tuesday

Wednesday

Thursday

Boxercise

Our fourth, fifth and sixth classes took part in boxercise sessions on the astro turf during active week. They discovered a great new way to keep fit and thoroughly enjoyed these tough sessions.

Teacher Vs Student Dodgeball

The Student Council decided as part of our Active Week Fun Day they would like to play a game of Dodgeball against the teachers. Both sides clearly had put in prior training because on the day there were plenty of accurate shots and definite team strategies. Each class level bravely lined up with the students vastly outnumbering the teachers! There were no clear winners on the day. However, so much fun was had by everyone, we may have to include a students Vs teacher event in all our future active weeks.

Walk in the Park

Active week was launched with yet another successful Walk in the Park on June 9th. The whole school went to Willsbrook Park and walked various distances depending on their class level. The children collected sponsorship money and have raised in excess of €2,700 to go towards upgraging our astro turf pitches. A great day was had by all and luckily we got a nice clear, dry day for our walk. The children were surprised to be treated to ice pops to cool down when they got back to school. Thanks to all parents, guardians and friends who helped out and walked with us on the day.
